Purpose

The purpose of the York Rite Sovereign College is to be a service to the York Rite of Freemasonry.

Membership

The prerequisite for membership, which is by invitation only, is good standing in all four York Rite bodies: Lodge, Chapter, Council, and Commandery.

Texas College No.14 History

A group of York Rite Masons interested In the formation of a York Rite College in the state of Texas met in the Colonial Room of the Raleigh Hotel in Waco, Texas, on Saturday morning, May 10, 1958, at eleven o'clock.

With Knight Companion William F. Carroll serving as temporary chairman and Knight Companion Fred F. DeVaney serving as temporary secretary, the following proceedings were had:

Knight Companion Victor C. Whitfield was unanimously chosen to serve as the York Rite Grand Governor for the State of Texas. A motion was made, seconded and duly carried that the York Rite Sovereign Governor of North America be requested to appoint Knight Companion Whitfield to this office.

The following officers were elected by acclamation to serve In the office opposite to their names:

The petition for a charter, addressed to the York Rite Sovereign College of North America was read and signed by the following: Victor Carl Whitfield, John Ogden Caruthers, Roy Bascom Underwood, Reese Leonard Hayes, George Maurice Foshee, Sr., Fred Forrest DeVaney, Odis Simmons, Lloyd Lester Jones, James Frederick Todd, Sam Dickerson Gulledge, William Francis Carroll, Mickey Eugene Hugghins, Eugene Shelby Winfree, Jr., Johnny Lafayette Lacey, Glenn Ferges, Vere Emerson Haggerty, J. T. Sanders, Donavon Kelso Glass, Edgar Thomason Hill, Robert Alford Bartley, William Joe Davis, Gerald Dee Morton, James Woodrow Jackson, Clinton Ferrell Barron, Edward Stephen Sweeden.
